Bakkhai Production Meeting Minutes
Date: Thursday, 28.02.2008
In attendance: Tanushka Marah, Julian Deering, Simeon Lewis, Charlotte Atkinson, Emily Dell, Roberta Edwards, Jenny Glithero, Samara Harrison-Moore, Naomi Wagner, Zoë Walker, Charlene Webster, Laura Marston
Absentees: Shabanah Rehman
Sound/Music: The music is slowly being put together, and made up as we go. Tanushka mentioned that we will have mainly live music and singing on stage. Jules handed a CD with forest sounds to Zoë at the beginning of our rehearsals which we will be using soon for some of the scenes. Tanushka would like to make use of instrumental music as a backdrop to our live singing. We are also going to use track 06 from the CD with the Greek music, and water sounds for the ‘sea scene’. Tanushka like the idea of drumming for the more energetic and gritty scenes, such as the Bacchae dance.
Lighting: Samara told us today that she needs a list of all the scenes to be able to work out lighting queues. She has already worked on two queues so far, which she will send me in another email.
Costume: Today Emily and Roberta brought in different types of dresses as a basic template for our costume: one yellow, A-cut viscose dress with short sleeves and an empire line beneath the breast, and one silver, grey A-cut dress with not sleeves and lace on the front. Tanushka uttered that she liked the idea of having an empire line on the dresses to make a visual connection to the ancient Greek styles of dressing. She also said that she was not too sure about having body make up for everyone on stage. Jules made us aware of being careful with the use of grey facial make up as the dance floor we are going to move on is also grey. Roberta and Emily said that they were comparing prices of viscose material. In Brick Lane 40m T-shirt material cost £ 138. They are going to have a look at Peter Jones (Sloane Sq, London, SW1W 8EL, Tel. 020 77303434) as their variety is very big. Please make sure you know the budget to be used as soon as possible.
Set-Props: There has been some progress with the idea of having a 3-D orb/moon on stage. With the help of Jules and Simeon, Charlie and Shabs looked into the idea of assembled polystyrene balls, spheres and shapes on www.grahamsweet.com. Jules suggested having a full instead of an half orb as it might be more stable. It could be hung up above head high and balance in the air. As Shabs was absent at the production meeting today Charlie did not have the model box of the set with her.
Charlie came up with the idea of using a dead tree with roots from the local council, extend the branches and paint it red. The weapons and sticks for the witches can also leant against the tree. As a base for the tree we could use an artificial oasis. Jules proposed that we could build a (wo)man made trunk, attach artificial branches and paint them red or use red spray paint.
Marketing/Publicity: Jenny, Charlene and Laura have told us that they will have a final session tomorrow and make the final decision between two pictures. They will also be discussing colours and design for the flyers with Jules.
Any other business: We will be ale to book TMG 65 for Easter but this needs to be done very soon to make sure we have the room secured for us. I will book the room for our rehearsals as soon as I know when we will be coming in for rehearsals. Please let me all know your availability.
