Bakkhai Production Meeting Minutes 5
Date: Thursday, 06.03.2008
In attendance: Tanushka Marah, Julian Deering, Simeon Lewis, Charlotte Atkinson, Emily Dell, Roberta Edwards, Jenny Glithero, Samara Harrison-Moore, Naomi Wagner, Zoë Walker
Absentees: Shabana Rehman, Laura Marston, Charlene Webster
Sound/Music: All the melodies and songs we will be using are decided.
All we need now are sea sounds (breaking waves, wind etc.). We will also need drones for our songs. Jules offered that he will record drones in all keys on a CD with which we can work.
Tanushka mentioned that she would like to have a symphonic piece for the last quarter of our performance, which will combine dark, frantic, African tribal drumming and a dark Techno track.
Costume: Emily and Roberta brought in dark grey/anthracite viscose samples into class, which cost £ 4, 50 per meter and £ 138 all together for all dresses. The costumes are going to be feet long, Greek style dresses with twisted straps and empire line.
As Shabs, Zoë and Jenny are playing men we need to think about a male costume. Tanushka said she liked the idea of separate jackets or robes for the male costumes.
Since we know what the costumes are going to look like, it is now time to go and buy the material so that Roberta’s mother can start sewing. Jules reminded Roberta and Emily that market stores take cash only. He asked the two to either pay the material out of their own pockets first or then get a refund or to wait until next week and get the money from Jules.
Set/Props: Charlie reported that the set and props team had to forget the idea of using a polystyrene ball as the moon/orb as a ball of the size we want would cost between £800 and £1000. Tanushka suggested using a gym/Swiss ball or to change the original idea into three smaller balls. Jules and others came up with the idea of using a see through balloon or lamp shades from Ikea.
As the tree Charlie mentioned that they will be using a real tree that will be painted or sprayed red.
Marketing/Publicity: The flyers are finished and will be sent off to Best Printing tomorrow. Jules is helping to make the e-flyers (resizing the pictures etc.) and will send those off tomorrow. Samara and Jenny have been working on creating a facebook.com event and Laura has created a page on myspace.com.
The group’s next project will be creating the programme. This means that we need headshots and a 50 word biography from everyone. We will approximately need between 200-300 programmes. However, they can me manufactured quite inexpensively. All we need is an A-4, colour copied, folded, simple programme. Jules offered to help with the layout. He said that it would be advantageously to create text boxes as they make the inserting of pictures easier.
Further we have democratically decided to write an inspirational biography about our peer partner which is to be sent via email to me by next Friday.
Lighting: There are no new queues so far. As soon as the running order is decided and all the scenes are ready we will continue with the lighting queues. Jules mentioned that he and Simeon will watch our run through on Thursday next week to be able to carry on working on the lighting queues.
Any other business: The dance floor will be picked up from Brighton on the 12th of March by Jules and Simeon.
This is Emma’s last week with us. She is going to send me the script so I can work with everyone on our individual rehearsal day.
Please do learn your lines from now on as the end is nigh!
We still need to find links in ancient Greek for the transitions of the text. And I will work out a last speech in ancient Greek to add to the last Bakkhai dance.
We also need the puppets’ speeches ready by next week.
We still need to think of how we are going to represent Aristaeus’ head. Roberta said that she will bring in a faceless head of her mother’s mannequin to see if we could use that. Please do not hesitate to bring in ideas.
